Over the weekend my friends and I who plan to join the basketball team planned a meetup to practice and play basketball. I am really glad that we were all available to play because we were able to improve our teamwork and communication! I personally take away a lot from these meetups we have because it is an opportunity for my peers to highlight and show me direct examples of my bad habits.
Two of the specific habits that my peers highlighted was my tendency to get the ball passed to me when not being defended which is the perfect condition to shoot the ball uncontested, but instead, I hesitate to shoot and give my defender time to come to me to then contest the shot. The other tendency I have is that when defending my opponent I tend to reach in and try to steal the ball which often results in an opportunity for my opportunity to predict the reach and then blow past me for an easy layup. From this activity, I was able to really identify my areas in need of improvement! I think my takeaway is just as simple as trying to stop my bad habits I have gotten so comfortable with and make the efforts to be more confident in my shot as well as holding back the need to reach and attempt to steal the ball.
